Echolink is up and running on a new PC. Intial reports are sounding good so if you have any suggestions please let us know. Echolink is a PC program that allows you to link to other stations via the internet around the world. Echolink can be downloaded from http://www.echolink.org and there is even a version for iPhone users (Droid coming soon too!!!!). The hardest part of using this software is you must forward some ports on your router to the PC you are running the software on. There are some great tourtorials for doing this on www.portforward.com with various routers to choose from. If your doing some traveling you can look up a repeater in your area and connect back to us. Echolink has an online site for listing status of nodes and seaches at http://www.echolink.org/links.jsp . If you have Google Earth you add a network link http://www.echolink.org/node_location.kmz and show locations all around the world. Our node is 46670 like our repeater frequency. If you have any questions please email me

ARRL Field Day is June 26-27, 2010ARRL Field Day is the largest on-the-air operating event in Amateur Radio. It draws tens of thousands to the airwaves each year, bringing new and experienced hams together for a weekend of fun! This years site will be at: PRUDENTIAL REALTY 9108 US 19 PORT RICHEY, FL 34668 We need to set up about 12 noon on Saturday June 26th. We need volunteers to help with trailers and antennas, and of course the balloon filling and hook up. Some of you have indicated that you would help, please come out and have some fun. We also need operators. If you are any class amateur you can operate during this event as an extra class. HF is a lot of fun and you will meet others around this great nation and make some friends. If you can't make our location check this site to search for a site near you. ARRL Field Day Locator |

Field Day has passed and now is time to start planning for next years event. Weather held out with no rain and a nice breeze made the heat somewhat bearable. Wasn't alot of operating done but alot of socializing. We had 36 people sign the log. Site was a good spot this year, thanks to Rich for setting this up and Prudential reality for allowing us to use their parking lot for the weekend. It cetainly was entertaing just hanging out and people watching. The balloon antenna was a success. We attached the balloon to a 100ft line of parachute cord with a single 24gauge wire cut to 135 feet to a tuner and a ground stake. Was able to tune up on 80, 40 and 20 meters and made some psk31 contacts. We tried lifting the balloon with a G5RV Jr but was too heavy. Next year we'll have to try a little heavier guage wire and a longer ground rod and maybe even higher. Big thanks to GASCO of Oldsmar for donating the Helium and Dan Wx4Dan from the local NOAA weather office for donating the balloon. Pictures coming soon. Thanks to everyone that came out. 73's Jerry K4JHK |
